The Am Law 100 And “The Plague of Short-Termism”

“Where would we be in 2015,” asks Aric Press, “without the influence and presence of The Am Law 100 and its profit per equity partner (PPP) charts?” Press, who was for years the editor-in-chief of the American Lawyer and then ALM Media and is now with the Bernero & Press law firm consultancy, says in fact the industry wouldn’t be that far from where it is today. He explains why – although it may be tempting to blame the rankings for “short-termism” and preoccupation with profits per partner – without the rankings they would still be with us, just “harder to see in the shadows.”
