Texas Owes Pro-Choice Lawyers $4.5M In Fees

Texas lost its battle to defend 2013 abortion restrictions, which the U.S. Supreme Court struck down in June as unconstitutional. On top of that defeat, the Center for Reproductive Rights, which litigated the suit, says the state owes it $4.5 million in attorney’s fees and other expenses. “Time and again, politicians in Texas have proven to be as reckless with taxpayer dollars as they are with the health and well-being of the people they serve,” said Nancy Northup, president and CEO of New York-based Center for Reproductive Rights. The Texas attorney general’s office has until Nov. 4 to respond to the request.
