Texas Law Firm Becomes Phish Bait

Numerous recipients worldwide received emails from a lawyer in a Texas law firm, regarding a “lawsuit subpoena.” It turns out the email address was valid, but the message was a ruse following a breach at the law firm. It was intended to get recipients to open an email that reportedly contained a virus within a Word document, which if opened would infect the recipient with malware that could be used to steal personal banking and other personal information. The law firm, a small practice based near Amarillo, has shut down the email account and posted a warning message on its website.
