Taylor Swift ‘Shakes Off’ Copyright Suit

Musician Jessie Braham, who claimed Taylor Swift lifted lyrics from him for her 2014 single, “Shake It Off,” can “never, ever, ever get his case back in court,” District Court Judge Fail Standish said – paraphrasing another Swift hit, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” – in dismissing the case. Braham claimed he copyrighted his song, “Haters Gone Hate,” in February 2013, which contained the lyrics: “Haters gone hate, playas gone play. Watch out for them fakers, they’ll fake you everyday.” Swift’s single contains the phrase: “Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play. And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate.” Braham sought $42 million, and wanted to be given songwriter credit. Instead, Standish sassily paraphrased Swift’s “Bad Blood,” writing, “[W]e have got problems, and the Court is not sure Braham can solve them.”
