Supremes Working To Avoid Deadlocks

Justice Elena Kagan this week said the members of the Supreme Court are “working really hard” to reach consensus on rulings and avoid 4-4 deadlocks in the wake of the death of Justice Antonin Scalia earlier this year. “All of us are working hard to reach agreement,” she told an audience at the NYU law school. “[W]e’re especially concerned about that now.” The Court has nearly 50 cases left to decide before summer break in June. Scalia’s death has left a mark on his colleagues, Kagan said. “I just loved Justice Scalia, and I miss him every day. He made the court such a fun place to be.”
