Supreme Court Rulings Put Victims Of Police Abuse At Disadvantage

A series of Supreme Court decisions in favor of police and prosecutors have created a justice system that “undermines the ability to deter illegal police behavior and leaves victims without compensation,” writes Erwin Chemerinsky, dean of the law school at University of California, Irvine, in an op-ed for the New York Times. Key Court decisions, when taken together, have made it disturbingly difficult for victims to hold government municipalities accountable for misconduct, and nearly impossible to sue individuals, Chemerinsky argues.
