Supreme Court: Pot Possession not Necessarily Grounds for Deportation

In a little noted decision, the Court rejected the government’s attempt to construe a sentence of five years probation followed by expungement as a felony. The defendant had been found with the equivalent of a couple of joints during a traffic stop.  Justices Sotomayor wrote the opinion and was was joined by Chief Justice Roberts, and Justices Scalia, Kennedy, Ginsburg, Breyer, and Kagan.  Dissenting were Justices Thomas and Alito.
