Supreme Court Hears Half The Cases It Did A Generation Ago

The Supreme Court this year will hear 69 cases, down by more than half from the 150 cases that were common in the 70s and 80s. The Economist describes the process by which the Court decides to hear cases, and the judicial courtesy – in little use now – that was responsible for swelling the case load decades ago.
