Supreme Court Goes To The Dogs On HBO

Twisting the debate over the Supreme Court’s ban on allowing cameras to record oral arguments, HBO’s John Oliver offered an alternative on his show, “Last Week Tonight”: playing audio of the arguments over puppies dressed as the Justices. As it stands, coverage of the Supreme Court is “boring,” Oliver said. “That’s a problem. Because what happens at the Supreme Court is way too important not to pay attention to. And yet, the ban renders any coverage basically unwatchable.” In Oliver’s re-enactment, the justices, as well as the arguing lawyers, were cast as pups – Justice Antonin Scalia as a bulldog, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg a Chihuahua – with a chicken stenographer and a duck as assistant counsel.
