Small Fraternity Of Lawyers For Police Shooting Victims

Justin Bamberg is a 29-year-old personal injury attorney who serves in the South Carolina House of Representatives. He has also represented the families of Walter Scott, Alton Sterling, and Keith Lamont Scott, all black men killed at the hands of police officers. Bamberg is one of a handful of lawyers in the U.S. who have taken on such cases in the era of the Black Lives Matter movement, fighting the uphill battle of police misconduct lawsuits, which are notoriously hard to settle or win. Bamberg was on a team that won a $6.5 million civil settlement for the family of Walter Scott. Some have suggested Bamberg and his ilk tackle those jobs for the money. Bamberg denies that. “These kinds of cases just aren’t ones that you do if you are in it for the money,” he told the Washington Post.
