Slick Legal Move Keeps Beatles Bootlegs Secret

A bootleg recording containing 59 unheard outtakes from The Beatles’ 1963 recording session was set to have copyright expire this year. Expiration of copyright in the UK was recently extended from 50 to 70 years for all sound recordings that have been published or made available to the public. In an effort to gain the added 20 years of copyright, Apple Records made the recordings public – for about two hours – and then retracted them.
