Shopping Mall In Fla Sues AMC Theaters For Rent

The owners of a shopping mall in Hialeah, Fla., have sued AMC theaters for their monthly rent of $52,153.87. In the complaint, filed in federal court in Miami, plaintiff shopping center owner Palm Springs Mile Associates, Ltd. says that it recognizes “the challenges posed by COVID-19,” but that they don’t rise to the level of a force majeure and they don’t relieve AMC from its tenant obligations. Variety, in its coverage of the suit, reports that AMC has shut down all its theaters worldwide, and that it expects them to stay closed at least through the end of June.
