Sen. Warren Puts Hold On Antitrust Nominee

Confirmation of Makan Delrahim, President Trump’s nominee to run the DOJ’s antitrust division, is being blocked by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D) of Mass. Delrahim was nominated in March and approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee in June, but the hold will delay his confirmation until September at the earliest. Warren calls his nomination an example of Trump’s willingness to put the “interests of giant corporations ahead of the American people.” She noted that Delrahim served as a lobbyist for Anthem in its attempted merger with Cigna. Warren is also among several Senate Democrats questioning the wisdom of the AT&T-Time Warner deal. They fear it will hurt consumers and competitors.
