The SEC’s 2013 Whistleblower Report

The numbers are in and they are impressive: In fiscal 2013, the second year of the Dodd-Frank whistleblower program, there were 3,238 whistleblower reports to the SEC, bringing the total since the program began in August 2011 to 6,573. The largest category of reports this year was Corporate Disclosures and Financials, at 17.2 percent. Many complaints came in from abroad, from a total of 55 countries. But with all this year’s activity there were only four bounty awards – although one of those was $14 million, to whistleblowers who remain anonymous.
