SEC To Bulk Up Financial Reporting Enforcement

The Securities and Exchange Commission is reinvigorating its accounting regulation enforcement efforts, including by adding dedicated staff and utilizing data mining. Plans include testing some software that will analyze the wording of disclosures. The prospect is for an increase in investigations and enforcement against issuers, corporate officers, directors and employees of public companies. A Skadden memorandum details what is known about this initiative, what issues it is likely to target, and what companies can do now to prepare.
