Sculptor Of Las Vegas Statue Sues The Post Office

The Statue of Liberty Stamp issued by the post office in 2011 has been extraordinarily popular. About 4 billion have been sold and it’s still selling. The face on the stamp, however, is from a replica that fronts a Las Vegas casino, not the statute in New York harbor, and now the sculptor is suing the post office for copyright infringement. His version, the filings note, is more “fresh-faced” and “sexier” than the real thing. A comment made by a post office spokesperson when the source of the image was pointed out by a collector could sink its case.
