SCOTUS To Weigh Confederate License Plates

The U.S. Supreme Court has decided to take up the question of whether Texas officials were within their rights to refuse a group’s request for the state to issue special license plates featuring a Confederate flag. Advocates say the decision violates free speech. Circuit Court Judge Jerry Smith argued that the correlation between the state and license plates “could hardly be stronger,” meaning the plates would be seen as an endorsement by the state rather than the expression of an individual.
