SCOTUS Looks Ready To Hit Unions Hard

This week the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in a case that may scrap a four-decade precedent allowing public-sector labor organizations to collect fees from workers who choose not to join. Sam Hananel of AP reports that in oral arguments, the Court’s conservative justices seemed leaning toward siding with California teachers who argue that being forced to pay dues violates their free-speech rights. The case affects more than 5 million workers in 23 states and Washington, D.C., and labor officials fear it may impact the very existence of unions.
