More Scammers Offering “Trademark Services”

Trademark holders and applicants are increasingly being targeted by sophisticated and official looking scams in the form of an invoice or a solicitation for “services.” Among them are publication services, watch services, registration services, domain name registration services and renewal services. Morrison & Forster attorneys detail the scammers’ modus operandi, name some names, and say these notices can generally be disregarded, although sometimes it’s hard to tell if they are legitimate. “Amount due” varies and can be well over $1000, but one outfit, based in Alexandria, Virginia, claims that for a processing fee of a modest $385 it will record your mark with U.S. Customs & Border Protection.
