It came at the height of the mayhem that followed the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, with a headline that read, “Protestors Criticized For Looting Businesses Without Forming Private Equity Firm First.” What followed was couched as excerpts from a Facebook post by one Amy Mulrain. “There’s a right and wrong way to do this,” she says. “Look, we all have the right to protest, but that doesn’t mean you can just rush in and destroy any business without gathering a group of clandestine investors to purchase it at a severely reduced price and slowly bleed it to death.” The post cites critics who recommend that protesters, in order to hold police accountable, buy the Minneapolis police department from taxpayers.
