Rutgers GC To Recuse Himself From Bullying Investigation

The general counsel for Rutgers University will recuse himself from an investigation into bullying allegations from a former football player because, according to the university, he may be called on to be a witness. In spring 2013, a freshman football player said he was verbally abused and threatened by a coach, and the player quit the team Nov. 6. Before the player quit, Rutgers GC John Farmer Jr. wrote an op-ed for The Star-Ledger in which he defended new Athletic Director Julie Hermann from another bullying incident she was tied to as a coach for the University of Tennessee. Farmer was planning to review the incident but will now be excluded from findings until the report is completed, which is expected to be in mid-December.
