Rick Ross Loses ‘Hustlin'” Copyright

Rapper Rick Ross cannot copyright, “Everyday I’m hustlin’,” lyrics from his debut 2006 hit, a judge has ruled. Ross sought to sue the group LMFAO for using a similar catch phrase, “Everyday I’m shufflin’” in a song and on merchandise. But the phrases are short expression that courts have repeatedly held cannot be copyrighted, said U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams. A trial to determine whether LMFAO’s song, “Party Rock Anthem,” is itself an unauthorized copy of “Hustlin’” is scheduled for October.
