Record growth of in industry once written off as dead as the manual typewriter has taken some observers by surprise. Aficionados, Neil Young among them, says that if your standard is quality of reproduction, in a contest between vinyl music, aka “LPs,” and digital modes there is no contest. A lot of people agree with him, enough to buy 4.6 million LPs in 2012. A trade group projects 40 percent growth in turntable sales this year.
