Republicans Retreat, Cordray Confirmed At Consumer Agency

Senate Republicans ended their battle to block the confirmation of Richard Cordray as head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the agency that was created under the Dodd-Frank law. The long and contentious process was brought to an end by a Democratic threat to change the filibuster rules – the so-called nuclear option. Republicans will continue to push for changes in how the bureau functions and is funded.
