Reddit Bans Salary Negotiations In Bid To Close Gender Gap

In an effort to subvert institutional gender bias, Internet giant Reddit has decided to forego salary negotiations as part of the hiring process. “Men negotiate harder than women do and sometimes women get penalized when they do negotiate,” said interim CEO Ellen Pao, who is herself considering an appeal of her recent sex discrimination lawsuit filed against her former employer, Kleiner Perkins. Women’s professional support network Levo found recently that 63 percent of women accept job offers without negotiating their salaries, and a UC Berkeley study found that women who ask for raises are more often lied to by their superiors.
