You can’t generate value without taking risk, but that doesn’t mean risks involved in overseas ventures – including expropriations, cancellations of operating licenses, and contract frustration – should  not be contemplated, analyzed and mitigated, says Iain Donald of the firm Control Risks. He outlines a practical strategy for doing so, and notes that having such a strategy in place can be useful when negotiating premiums with an insurer.
