“Promising Odds” For Obama Ozone Initiative

Although key Republicans and many business groups oppose it, they are unlikely to be able to thwart an Obama administration proposed rule that would lower permissible ozone levels, according to an article by Darren Goode and Erica Martinson in Politico. The rule would require new industrial facilities in many parts of the country to install costly-pollution control equipment, but would reduce the incidence and severity of respiratory disease and heart attacks, according to the EPA. Some opponents are hoping that the Administration won’t have the political capital to defend both the ozone proposal and initiatives that address global warming, and that the global warming will be judged more crucial.
