Pre-Existing Conditions Down But Not Out

Even the most rabid critics of Obamacare generally allow it got one thing right when it relegated the much-despised pre-existing conditions exclusion to the scrap heap of health-care insurance history. But it turns out this type of exclusion is alive and well in some other types of insurance, notably life and disability. In particular, says an article in the New York Times, it’s cropping up with regard to claims by some women who have experienced post-partum depression. Advice of some experts recall the recent bad old days when people might decide to keep their health problems to themselves in order to avoid a rate-hike, or find a doctor who would be so kind as to tweak the coding so as to avoid creating the record of a malady the carriers are wary of.
