Political ‘Bluster’ Clouds Obama’s SCOTUS Nominee Process

While obituaries for the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, who died Feb. 13, were still being written, Republican Senators were calling for President Obama to forgo nominating his replacement. According to Reuters, Obama has already had preliminary discussions on potential nominees with his team and with Senate offices. A number of Republicans have already said they will not support any candidate Obama names. “This is not the first time that Republicans have come out with a lot of bluster, only to have reality sink in” White House spokesman Eric Schultz told Reuters. “The president seeks judges who understand that justice is not about some abstract legal theory, or a footnote in a casebook, but it is also about how our laws affect the daily realities of people’s lives.”
