Pew Study: Privacy A Receding Daydream

More than half of 2,500 security experts surveyed by the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project thought that policymakers and technology leaders would be unable to create “a secure, popularly accepted, and trusted privacy-rights infrastructure by 2025 that allows for business innovation and monetization and also offering individuals choices for protecting their personal information in easy-to-use formats.” About 55 percent of respondents said it would never happen. But there was agreement on the notion that privacy would not “be appreciated or understood” by future generations. With the progression of technology and the Internet of Things, “notions of privacy will be considered a fetish,” one law firm attorney said.
