Pentagon Hires More White-Hat Hackers

The Pentagon, expanding a bug-bounty program it started two years ago, has awarded contracts to three private security firms, all of them relatively new crowdsourced Silicon Valley companies. This partnership allows “vetted hackers to simulate real and insider threats to certain systems,” according to a defense department release. After initial skepticism, Congress has gradually recognized the utility of the “Hack the Pentagon” program, and something similar appears to be in the works for the Department of Homeland Security.
