Paul Hornung Sues Helmet Maker Over “Failure To Warn”

Hall of fame running back Paul Hornung, whose career goes all the way back to Notre Dame and a time when players wore leather helmets with no face masks, has sued helmet maker Riddell. The case alleges “failure to warn” that the product would not protect against concussions. Hornung, now 80, suffered a number of those during his NFL career, which lasted from 1957 to 1966. One of Hornung’s attorneys compared the helmets to filter cigarettes, which by suggesting they make the product safer lead users to take risks they otherwise would avoid. The case was filed in state court in Illinois by the Chicago plaintiff firm Corboy & Demetrio, teamed with the Brad Sohn law firm, based in Coral Cables, FLA.
