Overseas Conduct Codes Can Be Perilous

Best practices in the United States can, for example, run afoul of EU labor and privacy law. One U.S. multinational fired German employees who clearly violated the company’s conduct code and ended up having to pay them $1 million each, after a court case. There are seven “deadly sins” to avoid when writing a conduct code that will be applied overseas.
