Office Parties Still In Recession Mode

Big companies that used to proudly throw over the top holiday parties are now throwing dull, teetotaling little potlucks, and have been since 2008. Millenials might think twas ever so, but their older colleagues like to regale them with tales of open bars and mounds of shrimp at parties past. A 2014 survey found that 22 percent of offices opt for a potluck party and 44 percent don’t offer any alcohol. In 2012, only 21 percent of companies banned alcohol. Career experts blame the new stinginess on the economic crash of 2008, and the simultaneous rise of social media and instant oversharing, which makes higher-ups worry about what their company culture may look like on Instagram.
