Odds Looking Better For A Federal Breach-Notification Law

Numerous attempts at passing federal data privacy legislation that includes breach notification requirements have languished, but the Target and Neiman Marcus breaches could make the difference this year, according to a post from the law firm Mintz Levin. In the Senate, two data security bills have been introduced. One of them, from Senator Patrick J. Leahy of Vermont, is a essentially a bill that was originally introduced in 2005. A second bill was introduced by Senator Tim Carper, a Democrat, and Roy Blunt, member of the Republican leadership.
