Obama’s Solicitor General Stepping Down

Donald Verrilli, the seventh-longest serving solicitor general in American history, is stepping down, the White House announced last week. Verrilli, who served in the post for five years, was “a dedicated public servant who has helped our nation live up to its promise of liberty and justice for all,” President Obama said. During his tenure, Verrilli argued groundbreaking cases from his successful defense of Obamacare to the nation-wide right to same-sex marriage. He will leave his post at the end of June, and be succeeded by Ian Gershengorn, his principal deputy.
