Obama Taps Former P&G CEO Bob McDonald To Lead VA

President Obama is set to nominate Bob McDonald, a West Point graduate and former CEO of Procter & Gamble, to take over the Department of Veterans Affairs. The VA is charged with serving more than 8 million veterans a year, and recently was found by a White House-commissioned study to have “significant and chronic system failures” and a “corrosive culture.” McDonald’s background is a departure from the more typical retired generals or medical professionals, though McDonald graduated in the top 2 percent of his class at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., and served in the Army for five years, achieving the rank of captain in the 82nd Airborne Division before taking an entry-level job at P&G.
