Obama Eying Nevada’s Republican Governor For SCOTUS Seat

Among the candidates President Obama is considering to nominate to the Supreme Court is Nevada’s Republican governor, Brian Sandoval. A former federal judge, Sandoval has served as governor since 2011. However, GOP leaders told the Washington Post that, even if Obama were to nominate a Republican, they would still oppose any move to set hearings on a potential Supreme Court justice until a new president’s term begins. The nominee “will be determined by whomever wins the presidency in the fall,” said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). The seat is vacant after Justice Antonin Scalia died on Feb. 13.
