Northwestern Appeals NLRB Ruling That Athletes Can Unionize

Northwestern officially asked the National Labor Relations Board to overturn its March decision that Northwestern football players are employees, and may vote to form a union. According to the University’s brief, the decision upends the premise college sports are based on. It said “overwhelming evidence” that Northwestern’s primary commitment was the education of student-athletes was ignored. Trevor Siemian, slated to start as quarterback for the Wildcats this fall, announced that he will vote against unionization. “I’m treated far better than I deserve,” he said. The players will vote April 25.
