North Carolina Judge Questions LegalZoom’s Right To Practice

Just two weeks after South Carolina’s Supreme Court approved LegalZoom’s business model, a North Carolina judge found there was more to be determined and extended a lawsuit mounted by the North Carolina state bar, which claims the company is engaging in the unauthorized practice of law and has failed to meet filing requirements.  The judge, James L. Gale, said he needed more time to examine the details of LegalZoom’s software technology, which allows users to draft certain legal documents by following out a series of questions.
