North Carolina Asks SCOTUS To Reinstate Voter ID Laws

North Carolina has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review, before the Nov. 8 presidential election, an appeals court decision that struck down laws requiring voters to show identification. The appeals court found that the law discriminates against minority voters, but lawyers for Republican Gov. Pat McCrory say the status quo should remain for this election. The law was enacted in 2013. The state sent its request to Chief Justice John Roberts, who handles emergency requests from the federal appeals courts that cover the state.
