New Research: Lawyers Aren’t Machines

Some recent studies have dampened speculation about lawyers being replaced by computers and artificial intelligence programs. There is a growing consensus, writes John Markoff in The New York Times, about how the capacity to automate “tasks” doesn’t equate to the ability to automate a job. Some studies suggest that more computerization of tasks frequently has the opposite effect, in the sense that it results in more hiring, although at a level that requires more sophistication.
