New Government Cybersecurity Standards Under Development

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), an agency in the Commerce Department, has been charged by the President with developing a cybersecurity framework for critical infrastructure owners and operators. It will include standards, as well as recommendations and incentives. In September the agency will hold a three-day workshop at the University of Texas at Dallas, and it will publish a provisional document, with opportunity for public comment, in October.
