New California Employment Laws In 2015

Starting on January 1, unpaid interns in California will have the same protections against discrimination as paid employees. Attorneys from Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher summarize this and about a dozen other new employment laws that will go into effect next year in California, addressing such areas discrimination, paid sick leave, bullying, wage-and-hour issues, immigration status and retaliation. The new intern law will forbid discrimination, retaliation or harassment of interns, or of anyone in a short-term training program, on the basis of  race, religion, creed, color, national origin, ancestry, physical disability, mental disability, medical condition, genetic information, marital status, sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, age, sexual orientation, or military and veteran status.
