Muckraker’s Charge: Elected Politicians Are Extorting Companies

The conservative author whose book exposed insider trading by members of Congress and others in Washington, leading to passage of the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge Act, has a new book, titled “Extortion.” In it he argues, among other things, that politicians are using their power as legislators to leverage corporate contributions, at times playing one company off against another, and that they purposely write complex laws so they can later sell themselves as indispensable experts.
