Mistrial For Four In Cliven Bundy Case

Two men were found guilty related to an armed standoff between government agents and activists at Cliven Bundy’s Nevada ranch, but a federal jury in Las Vegas deadlocked on charges for another four men. They all participated in the 2014 standoff, a fight over government-owned land in the west, and their trial is seen by some as a bell-weather for the upcoming trials of Bundy and his eldest sons, Ammon and Ryan Bundy. Federal prosecutors are trying to convince a jury that the Bundys were leaders of a conspiracy to defy the government with guns. The Las Vegas jury convicted Gregory Burleson on eight charges including threatening and assaulting a federal officer, which carry a minimum sentence of 57 years in prison. They also convicted Todd Engel of obstruction and traveling across state lines in aid of extortion, which carries an up to 30-year sentence. But the judge declared a mistrial in the case of another four men, who will now face new trials in June.
