Mississippi Still Fighting Civil Rights

A district court judge blocked a Mississippi bill that would have allowed private citizens and some public officials professing  “sincere” religious belief to deny services to gays and lesbians. He ruled that the State would be favoring some religious views over others if the bill took effect. Earlier the same judge ruled that circuit clerks cannot deny marriage licenses to same-sex couples in Mississippi. Governor Phil Bryant vowed an aggressive appeal of the ruling.
