MGM Drops ‘Bond’ Copyright Suit

MGM has decided to drop its copyright case against Universal over a project with similarities to the James Bond franchise. MGM claimed that Universal’s film “Section 6” was a ripoff of the Bond movies, but Universal says the movie hasn’t even gotten a green light yet, and that MGM sought to stake out “a monopoly on the British spy genre,” Variety reports. The U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, in dismissing the case, did so without prejudice, meaning it could be filed again, and there has been speculation that an agreement between the studios may have outlined specific details of what can and cannot be included in Universal’s project.
