Memo To Staff From FTC Chair

The FTC’s priorities were laid out in a memo to staff from Chair Lina Khan earlier this month. They include addressing “rampant consolidation,” focusing on the power imbalance between consumers and corporations. and adjusting the agency’s strategic approach to deal with the issues created by “next-generation technologies, innovations, and nascent industries across sectors.” She said the FTC should take a “holistic” approach to consideration of antitrust violations. “Business models that centralize control and profits while outsourcing risk, liability, and costs also warrant particular scrutiny, given that deeply asymmetric relationships between the controlling firm and dependent entities can be ripe for abuse,” she wrote.
