McAfee Predicts 2015’s Top Cyber Threats

A report from McAfee Labs looks back at 2014, calling it “the year of shaken trust,” and identifies what it sees as the major threats for 2015. Among them: Increased use of cyber warfare and espionage tactics, including adaptation of cyber espionage tactics by criminals, small states and terror groups; more attacks targeting Internet-of-things technology; attacks using ransomware, including variants that target cloud-based storage; attacks on mobile devices; increasing incidence of non-windows malware attacks against vulnerable Unix or Linux devices; more exploitation of popular software; and exploitation of vulnerabilities in “sandboxing” technologies. Meanwhile, point of sale (POS) attacks will “remain lucrative,” McAfee predicts, despite new digital technologies, and the privacy debate will continue and intensify.
